The Con on Friday, new band, new music

Only a few days until the Con Cellar Bar on Friday night (1st of Feb). I’ve written a whole set of new tunes for a new sextet, the line up is

The line up is:
Josh Arcoleo – tenor
Tom Challenger – tenor, clarinet
Lewis Wright – vibes
Sam Lasserson – bass
Jeff Williams – drums
And I’m on various saxophones and clarinets

I am finishing up the parts now for everyone and am feeling a mixture of fear and excitement. But I’m really looking forward to it and it feels like it’s been a long time coming.

It’s a double bill with Martin Speake who is playing in a trio with the amazing Kit Downes and Jeff Williams, which frankly sounds incredible.

Green Chimneys

Aside

I just want to draw everyone’s attention to www.greenchimneys.co.uk – a new listings paper and website for musician-led grassroots creative music events in London, finally bringing listings for great nights such as the Con Cellar Bar, Jazz at the Oxford, SE Collective and many others together in one place. This should be everyone’s first port of call for finding out what’s going on in the incredibly fertile and diverse scene that is happening all over the city, right under everyone’s noses. Most gigs cost £5 or less to get in to, the venues are intimate but exciting, and the quality of music making has never been better. Thanks to Tom Challenger and Dan Nicholls for making everything a little bit more visible and accessible.

New Sextet – 1st of February at the Con Cellar Bar

I am currently writing music for a new project which I am very excited about. I am putting together a sextet which will make it’s debut on the 1st of February at the Con Cellar Bar, Camden.

The line up is:
Josh Arcoleo – tenor
Tom Challenger – tenor
Lewis Wright – vibes
Sam Lasserson – bass
Jeff Williams – drums
And I will be playing various reeds…

As you can imagine I am very excited about playing with such an incredible group of musicians and am doing my utmost to come up with some music worthy of their time and effort.

Did I mention I’m very excited about this?

I hope to see you there, it’s a double bill with Martin Speake’s amazing quartet so if all else fails I can guarantee at least one set of great music.

Come and check it out. More info at http://www.concellarjazz.co.uk (ignore the fact that it says ‘Michael Chillingworth Quartet’, this project came together too late for the listings.)
